European Commission proposed the creation of Stabilisation and Association Process for Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.


10 June 1999
The Stability Pact was adopted. The Stability Pact is a political document with the strategic goal to achieve stability in South East Europe by drawing the countries of the region closer to the Euro-Atlantic structures and by strengthening regional co-operation.

European Commission published a positive Feasibility Report on the beginning of negotiations on Stabilisation and Association Agreement.

Zagreb Summit – Beginning of negotiations between Republic of Croatia and the EU on Stabilisation and Association Agreement.

Government of the Republic of Croatia adopts guidelines for negotiations on Stabilisation and Association Agreement.

5 December 2000
The Council of the European Union adopted the Regulation No 2666/2000 on Community Assistance for Reconstruction, Development and Stabilisation – CARDS


14 May 2001
Stabilisation and Association Agreement was initialled in Brussels.

10 July 2001
Interim Agreement was initialled.

29 October 2001
Stabilisation and Association Agreement and Interim Agreement was signed in Luxembourg.

Croatian Parliament ratified Stabilisation and Association Agreement

European Parliament ratified Stabilisation and Association Agreement
