Overview of Bilateral International Agreements
These pages contain an overview of all the bilateral international treaties and other international acts signed or agreed by the Republic of Croatia and individual countries of the world to date, in alphabetical order according to the official shortened name of the country. In addition, these pages also contain all the international treaties or acts which the Republic of Croatia and other relevant countries have taken on from the bilateral agreements through succession of the international treaties signed by the former state, if such a specific treaty was signed.
For a complete overview of all the treaties and agreements, the first section of the list includes those countries with which the Republic of Croatia has established treaty relations, which also includes certain international entities without statehood, but which are exceptionally significant international and legal subjects (the Holy See, the Sovereign Military Order of Malta), and the treaties with federations of independent states which in certain treaty relations appear jointly before a third party (such as Benelux and the Union of Belgium and Luxemburg). Finally, it is worthwhile noting that in this overview of treaties and acts between the Republic of Croatia and individual states (Bosnia Herzegovina, Italy, Hungary, Slovenia), certain multi-party and trilateral treaties are also included, considering that in their nature they are more similar to bilateral than to multi-party international treaties.
For each international treaty or act, the following information is provided:
- the official name;
- date of signing;
- information on a possible temporary application;
- the issue of the Official Gazette of the Republic of Croatia (NN-MU) in which the text of the treaty is outlined;
- the issue of the Official Gazette of the Republic of Croatia (NN-MU) in which the date the treaty becomes effective is stated;
- information regarding a possible cessation of force, if applicable.
With respect to international treaties or acts which the Republic of Croatia took on from the former state, based on the bilateral agreement with individual states on succession, with the information of the number in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Croatia (NN-MU) in which the list of international treaties and acts taken over through succession is given, together with the official title of each treaty or act and the information on the issue of the Official Gazette of the Republic of Croatia (NN-MU) in which the text of the treaty taken over during succession is outlined and information about its possible cessation of force.
In addition to reviewing the international treaties and acts by country, they can also be reviewed according to eleven topics (free trade; avoidance of double taxation; stimulation and protection of investments; readmission; the battle against terrorism; illegal trade of drugs and organized crime; culture; education and scientific cooperation; road transport of passengers and goods; marine transport of passengers and goods; air transport; legal assistance; social and health insurance), in which the information on every treaty or act in the topic group will be divided according to the same criteria as listed in the overview of bilateral international agreements or acts with individual countries.
